Creating changing-color surfaces due to temperature variations
Cromas thermosensitive paint allows surfaces to experience a temporary but impactful change of color as temperature varies. Changing color is the main feature that products achieve after the application of our professional finish.
Our thermosensitive or thermochromic paints ensure ease of application and high performance on a wide range of supports. The surfaces finished with Cromas thermochromic paint, change of color as they reach 25 -30°C which is the temperature range usually reached by the touch of the hands.
Going into detail, the thermosensitive paint doesn’t really changes of color but actually becomes transparent and allows to see the material lying underneath the paint.
The more covering is the color, the better the visual effect of the thermochromic paint. When using 100% covering color, the paint starts becoming transparent soon after body contact or if exposed to heat. This is particularly true when the black paint color is used. Because red or blue colors have lower concentration of covering pigments, we advise to apply it on a white base in order to make the changing-color effect more evident.

Red thermochromic paintAs it can be seen in our demonstration video, the contact with hot or cold water can achieve an almost instantaneous change of color.
Given the low resistance of the thermochromic pigments to UV rays, we recommend to apply the paint only on surfaces placed indoor.

Black thermochromic paintThe application of the thermochromic paint is very simple. A solvent-based version of the paint can be provided to professional and industrial users because it can guarantee a higher covering power and opaque finish. It is suitable for large fast drying surfaces.
Our temperature changing paint is available in the following colors:
- BLACK – activation temperature range: 26-29° C
- RED – activation temperature range: 26-31° C
- LIGHT BLUE – activation temperature range: 24-30 °C
Colors on screen are approximate. To learn more about the available colors, please contact us.
The thermochromic effect can be applied with a primer to different materials:
- wood
- metal (iron, aluminium, brass, etc)
- plastic (ABS, ABS-PC, etc…)
